Q:

I found a bug in Blackbox, what should I do?

A:

Make sure you have the most recent version of the software. You can download the newest version here. If the bug exists in the most recently released version of the software, then check the SpeedRanker Community to see if the bug has been previously discovered and resolved. If it hasn't, then please report the bug in the SpeedRanker Community under the "Software Bugs" topic or the software download area for the version you are using. When you post a bug be sure to include all relevant information, including the following:

  • Blackbox software version number you were using when you experienced the bug.
  • A description of what you were doing with the software when the bug occurred.
  • A screenshot of the bug and any error messages, if applicable.

Q:

Why does Blackbox connect to the SpeedRanker website when I run it?

A:

The Blackbox program currently uses the Microsoft Virtual Earth API to plot the GPS data on maps. Normally, when the API is in 2D mode, it can reference our custom "pushpin" icons from the Blackbox application folder on your computer. Some of these icons include the "Top Acceleration," "Top Speed," and "Top Lateral G" images. However, when the Microsoft Virtual Earth API goes into 3D mode, it can no longer get the pushpin icons from the application folder on your computer, it must link to images that are on the internet. When Blackbox connects to the SpeedRanker web site, or "calls home" as some people call it, the program is linking to these pushpin icons so that they can be displayed in the 3D map mode.
